latest project: the bathroom...

Another great week and weekend at my house :) Thanks brother for helping out while you were home and thanks to my parents for working so hard during the week AND on Mother's Day while I had to work! We have now worked nearly every holiday at my house for the beginning of the year...

But what progress we made and it shows in my many pictures! I got my blinds installed from JcPenney and I am very happy with how they look. They had a couple of mistakes but they will fix them. I painted the first coat on the hallway baseboards upstairs. I also did some touch up painting in my bedroom and on one of the red walls downstairs.

Mom and I sanded the steps and started to test stain. We tried a couple of colors and I think the walnut (the darker stain) looks best. So some of those pictures are the old stains that we weren't totally satisfied with. We will end up painting the risers with the off white color I used on most of the woodwork.

The columns have also been sanded and just need to be wiped, primed, and painted. A couple more coats of paint were put on doors this weekend and the sliding closet doors started. My first closet door (the one in my bedroom) is hung, which makes mom happy now that I can start hauling clothes over there :)

We have lights! My bedroom fan/light was installed, the hallway light upstairs was installed, and half of the kitchen can lights are on. The track light in the kitchen was also installed and the last light is to be determined but will likely be a pot rack light that hangs above the big windows.

Our big project was the bathroom floor. We ripped up some vinyl last week to see what was under there. The subfloor was fine but the vinyl backing started peeling off and so we had to tear out (saw) the subfloor. Dad did that and we found old black and white flooring under it. I removed the chair rail on the walls and started washing down the bathroom/linen closet. The old and ugly toilet is now on the curb, so feel free to pick it up! Brother and dad carried the new one upstairs and out of my living room; that will get installed after the new flooring goes down.

Brother also removed cinder blocks from the front yard which was a lame attempt at a retaining wall from the previous owner. He took out another small part of fence too. I think I even found someone to hall the bricks away!
