tedious tasks!

This weekend's work consisted of tedious tasks! Thank you Aunt J. and Uncle D., again, for helping this weekend. Mom, Aunt J., & I stripped a lot of varnish and latex paint from the downstairs woodwork-so goodbye ugly green paint! Also, sanded some woodwork. We are still looking for the perfect paint/varnish stripper that works wonders. Dad & Uncle D. installed the new security doors. Dad also is tying up the loose ends of the new plumbing and has the toilet in place!

I brought over my paint selections to see how it looked in the house. When I thought I had my choices, I went to Sherwin Williams to get larger samples, brought them back Sunday, and they didn't look how I wanted them to. Bummer. On a brighter note, we laid down large pieces of construction paper where our appliances will go, in order to give us a good visual idea of space layout.

I got the floors estimated to be sanded and polished and learned something neat about the narrow woodwork. Apparently the woodwork looks like the kind in the Broadway district of Rock Island. It is rare and they brought it by trainload a century ago; once it was gone, you could not get it. I definitely want to save this part of history.

We also had many of our windows measured for new ones-and it should about 6 weeks for them to come in! I think we are still keeping up with our deadline (move in during March) but the woodwork and paint will be a daunting task. We have all of February to get painting and woodwork done before floors are sanded and windows installed in beginning of March.
