this weekend: my porch is all jacked up

Notice how far off the porch that old column is hanging...

Not much of a hole in the roof anymore--and now patched and waterproofed.

ABOVE: the roof ceiling from the porch. BELOW: the hole in the roof before we jacked it up, after we cut the plywood out to make the hole...

LOTS OF PICTURES!! The few pictures that are not showing the porch are my patio set I recently spray painted to look like new, the knife rack installed in my kitchen, and the register in my kitchen. The dining room register is also done and painted. We couldn't find spray paint exactly like the woodwork color but it was the closest we could find. I should mention that those grates were painted in awful paint that was hard to strip off. Mom did the best she could, then dad spent an hour on the wire wheel with each one polishing them up.

So, we jacked up my sloping porch. That was quite the task and a bit nerving to hear it squeak so much. We have four support columns right now that helped us and we had to jack up each one a few inches at a time before we got the porch level. It was raised about six inches. The guys also had to cut out some plywood under some shingles before they could raise the roof; otherwise, the plywood would have jammed into the house.
