Well, we have continued to work on my house over the weekends and a couple times a week to accomplish some of the smaller tasks.
Dad got the kitchen lights working this last weekend-they weren't working because they were never hooked up! I did some yard work over the weekend and mom and Nate trimmed the bushes behind the house. I finally posted the picture of my bedroom sconce that is now on! Also, notice my fire alarm (safety first!)-I now have one in the kitchen and one upstairs.
Some caulking was done around the house downstairs to fill in some cracks between the wood, specifically in the dining room above the bay window. Dad bought, routered, and primed some woodwork for the kitchen baseboards since we threw all of the original out during demolition. A couple pieces were for the bathroom too.
The toe-kick along the bottom of the cabinets was installed in the kitchen and the dishwasher screwed in. The kitchen door leading into the basement had a finished coat put on it after sanding the primer.
Under-cabinet lights were connected and the exhaust fan was hooked up to power. Most of the quarter round in the dining room was also installed.
Mom and I started on the purple room...the wainscoting was removed even though that was not in the original plan. Originally, I wanted to just sand and paint it white. Well, we took some off the first wall and saw it was nailed and not glued, so we continued. BIG MISTAKE!
We then found out that the rest of the walls were glued and they must have ran out of glue on the wall we started on. So now my walls are down to the plaster and concrete. That room will now take us longer to complete because it will need drywall. That was our struggle for the weekend.
I am also attempting to decorate the walls and I learned that I am indecisive and not good and deciding where pictures should go. My brother has given me some of his larger paintings to hang though since I have so much blank wall space. And I hung some West Side Story records in my dining room--I was named after Natalie Wood, so feel I should honor her in some way!
THURSDAY NIGHT UPDATE: Dad came over and put up some of my glass tile backsplash in the kitchen. IT LOOKS AWESOME! And let me tell you-the entire kitchen was mostly planned around this tile because I wanted to use it so bad. This is the tile I got at Habitat's Restore SUPER cheap.
