painting wood and many other tasks

YAY for progress! We are starting to finish smaller tasks since the bigs ones have been completed and that says we are getting down to details :) We still have a ways to go but some of the smaller tasks are being accomplished now. Thanks Aunt M., Aunt J., Uncle D., mom and dad for helping this weekend! And thanks for bringing chili on Saturday Aunt J.!

Last week, the kitchen floor was ripped up by mom, dad, and even Joel and his son (THANK YOU!). The subfloor does need to be repaired in a few places. It was really filthy in there since there is 100 years of dust under the wood. Now my prefinished oak floors can be laid after the taper is done in there.

The drywall taper was there all day on Saturday and completed the kitchen Sunday morning. He will return sometime this week to do a wall in the bathroom. This means we will be painting this weekend in the kitchen!! Also, cabinets were rescheduled to be delivered this week. The kitchen will be coming together soon and I cannot wait :)

I put two coats of oil based paint on the baseboards in the living room and dining room. Aunt M. also put second coats on the windows and doors downstairs. She also got the first coat on half the doors upstairs!

Dad installed window stops/trim and caulked in the windows downstairs and in my bedroom. Those will have to be painted to match the other trim. The ceiling box and light switch were wired in my bedroom also The only thing left in there is painting the trim and doors!

The attic, which I have never talked about except for my critters living in there, is very cool. It is a walk up attic and looks like a loft but is unfinished. At this point, I am not going to finish it off for living space because I have enough stuff to store up there. So, dad put in 6 more inches of insulation and plywood for 1/3 of the attic. This will help with my energy costs. This also made him think about the windows up there. There are 4 large windows and he saw that they will need to be replaced and they weren't going to be at first. However, rain water could potentially get in on the south side and cause damage, so we have ordered 4 new windows from Suburban.

Wiring in the panel for the kitchen outlets was completed this weekend too. The office was primed and now that is ready to paint. I filled in cracks in the stairs and hallway and ceiling so that can be painted next weekend too.

Today, I got my last quote for blinds from JcPenney's home department. I think I will be going with them but I need to decide if I should get all at once or pick and choose.
