Holy cow, what a weekend! And we got to enjoy some of the gorgeous weather :) Thank you mom, dad, brother, Aunt J., and Aunt M. Our taper guy, Al, finished the drywall, before the weekend, in the kitchen and the bathroom!
Dad said there are milestones you meet when renovating a house and installing floors is one of them. Well, this weekend brother and Dad laid pre-finished oak in the kitchen. It is nearly done except for two small parts that need to be finished with a hammer instead of the dandy tool we rented from Home Depot. Before the floor was installed, the subfloor was screwed down and some parts repaired to eliminate squeaks.
The kitchen was primed in the spots where cabinets won't be and the ceiling was painted. We can now paint that and then install cabinets!!
The bathroom is ready to be painted once I figure out a color (I'm now thinking yellows). The first coat of trim paint was put on my baseboards in my bedroom. Aunt M. also finished the two windows in my bedroom and got the first coats on the door frame and closet door frame.
Outside, mom stripped the back door and sanded some trim from the kitchen. That is now ready to prime and paint; I think the door turned out well enough that we can stain it.
Brother was a machine and tore out the chain link fence in the front of the yard-that did wonders. The neighbor across the street even came over and thanked him for taking it out since it was a bit of an eyesore. He started to do the fence in back but realized the bushes have grown into it.
We cleaned up the yard a bit to take advantage of the free yard waste pick up. We found a lot of bricks in random places and are mostly misfits. I will keep them for now until I decide what I am doing with my yard. Speaking of, I think I need a lawn mower now :( Come mow my lawn, I'll give you a case of beer :)
The wood floors look awesome! I didn't even realize it was the kitchen at first. I can't wait to see it when its done. :) Great job!
