Woo!! We got a lot done last weekend! Finished the guest bedroom (notice how I didn't say purple room!!!) minus a few small paint touch ups. And obviously, it needs to get some furniture. I have one antique chest of drawers, but I would love to get a new bedroom set for myself in my master bedroom and move that furniture into the guest room. We'll see. Dad and I also got the blinds put back up in the guest bedroom and one in the office that had the new window replaced.
The floors look pretty good--haven't seen them bare in about a year, since they were refinished pretty much. Dad started putting up siding insulation for the front porch and framing the door and window. I painted/stained two of the front porch steps and will finish this weekend.
Mom did some yard work-mostly because I do not do the best in that department (but hey, I bought some grass seed!). And dad and I also finished taking an itty bitty piece of fence out of a bush stump that it had grown around. It looked ratty but other than that, it was harmless since it was in a corner of the yard. Dad and Nate took down the dish that came with the house in preparation for my new roof--which I will get to soon.... Nate also burned the last of the stump in the front yard and took it out using a shovel. It was a relief that it came out so easily and now I can put some grass seed there. The picture above of the ground is showing where the stump was.
We hung the closet door in the guest bedroom and took down the LAST door of the house to be painted-the attic door. We took that up to the attic to sand, prime, and paint a finish coat. And what is covering the attic doorway now? A formal purple room door! I hung on to it (mostly for beer pong table purposes!) in case we needed it for anything else. A couple pieces of bathroom woodwork were installed, including a piece of baseboard and some quarter round. I filled in nail holes and painted over on the quarter round in my bedroom, since I already had the paint out.
Now to get to my roof---we changed companies. We are now going with Jansen and White who did the first quote for the house and my dad knows Bruce Jansen from when he did my parents' roof 10 years ago. Here's the low down: the company I was going with-Homeworks Central Inc.--price matched and beat Jansen's quote. Days after the contract was signed, he said he reviewed their quote and saw they had fine print to add lumber costs onto it. This was not the case because we had the lumber costs included since we knew the roof needed to be stripped down to the old lumber.
Jansen's quotes all have that on there as a disclaimer to others in case they need to add that onto roofs that they didn't know had bad lumber until the job was underway. Anyway, Homeworks Central was trying to charge us more money based on someone else's quote, which they didn't even understand themselves. So, they no longer have our business and my dad feels more comfortable with someone he knows.
