guest bedroom update...

The guest bedroom is coming along! These past couple weekends we have been installing the wainscoting and painting it since they were only primed. It doesn't change the color but just makes it a shinier white. The rest of the woodwork is also painted and we are nearly done with that task.

Dad is installing an outlet in the guest bedroom on one of the walls but couldn't get it to reach the basement. So, he knocked a hole in the wall in the dining room (directly below guest bedroom) to finish getting the wire downstairs. He will now put an outlet on that wall since there wasn't one on that wall in the dining room AND an outlet on the outside of the house. Check that out! The above picture with the hole in the wall is of the dining room...

I painted the bottom stair riser these past couple weekends to match the rest of the stairs. We got it patched up pretty well--it was in such bad shape from tearing the carpet off--and I am pleased with how it turned out. Some detailed wood needs to be purchased and added to it-but it is minor and no one, but myself, will notice.

I got my last two windows installed-one for the guest bedroom and one in the office (the yellow room above). Feels good to have those out of the way and operable now! Dad then put the window trim up in the office for that window and I painted it.

Lastly, I got three quotes to get my roof re-shingled last week. I am going with Homeworks Central Inc which was very reasonable (as reasonable as they come these days). The roof is a lot of work though-they have to tear off three layers and lay all new and my roof is very steep. This should be getting done in the next few weeks!

What are the top tasks to finish? (because we all know house work is never finished) Finish the guest room-some painting (of the closet door too), minor caulking, and installing chair rail above the wainscoting. Install siding on the front porch once it is warm. FInish the electrical work on the outlets just created. And get a new roof installed. And other odds and ends!

P.S. Had to add ONE more pic that I took tonight. Dad came over to put up chair rail and got more than half of the room done. Looks awesome! And, I forgot to mention that he put up quarter round on two walls, so the first picture shows both accomplishments!
